Q. What is a Maternity Grant?

A. A maternity grant is a lump sum of $600.00

Q. Who qualifies for a Maternity Grant?

A. A woman qualifies for a Maternity Grant if:

  • She has given birth to a child; and
  • she or her husband or common law husband has paid to the National Insurance seven consecutive months immediately preceding the month of confinement.
  • Common law union must have existed for five(5) years i.e. they must have lived in the same dwelling as if they were husband and wife for this duration.
