JOB SUMMARY:
Plan & direct accounting activities within the Finance/Accounts Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and payroll.
- Have direct responsibility for the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.
- Supervise and participate in the preparation of various financial statements and reports.
- Manage the accounting team
- Ensure your team is adequately trained with the knowledge and skills required to perform their duties.
- Direct installation and maintenance of accounting records to show receipts and expenditures.
- Direct the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, operating expenses, and insurance records.
- Direct and participate in cost analysis and rate studies.
- Prepare statements and reports on estimated future costs and revenues.
- Establish controls for new financial systems and develop procedures to improve existing systems.
- Co-ordinate the external audit and external financial reporting.
- The preparation of timely and accurate financial statements and financial reports requested by management.
- Review and finalize the financial statements with management personnel.
- Direct the installation and maintenance of new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls.
- Ensure the company is compliant with all statutory regulations.
- Review requisitions from departments and approve purchases.
- Supervise the physical inventory of stock biannually.
- Generate financial reports for the Car Park, Blue Coral Facilities, and related companies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO from time to time.
- Direct and manage the activities of the Project Services Department in accordance with company policy.
- Undertake project conceptualization, project planning, project development, project management and construction as required.
- Provide technical and advisory services on acquisitions, construction and leasing of properties.
- Manage capital repairs for buildings owned by the National Insurance Corporations’ Group of Companies and other works in accordance with contracts executed by NIPRO.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all project activities being undertaken and submit monthly progress reports on activities of the department to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Ensure that the work environment as well as work practices relating to projects under the management of NIPRO are safe and in accordance with the labour laws of St. Lucia.
- Ensure that all contractors implement projects contracted to them in accordance with the terms of their respective contracts and in compliance with industry standards.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to analyze complex or diverse information and design workflows and procedures
- A knowledge of IFRS Accounting Standards
- Ability to delegate tasks, authorize independent work, and manage staff performance.
- Ability to support staff in planning, decision-making, and performance improvement.
- Ability to manage the approved budget, implement cost-saving measures, and conserve resources.
- Ability to think strategically, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
- A working knowledge of safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to draft correspondence and prepare accounting reports or financial statements.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to solve practical problems in finance and accounting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A postgraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent.
- Experience using computerized accounting software like SAGE, QuickBooks, or Peachtree would be a requirement.
- Seven (7) years’ experience in accounting with at least five (5) in a supervisory capacity.
